NASA is testing a new device to search for life on Europa and Enceladus

Not all Rovers are designed to travel on the surfaces of solid worlds such as Mars. The solar system — quite an interesting place, hiding several icy satellites of the giant planets, beneath a thick crust which hide vast oceans. In order to check whether a life experience in a completely water world, NASA is going to launch a study and Enceladus using new device, designed in the walls of the space Agency.

BRUIE — a Rover that will explore the under-ice oceans far away from the Sun of the worlds. According to the idea of specialists from NASA, the unique Rover will be able to move across the icy surface of the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and to swim in the ocean depths these small celestial objects. Currently, the BRUIE Rover is in the Antarctic at the Australian research station Casey. The task of scientists from Australia will be to test the development of endurance, which is very useful to the Rover during the dip under the 20-kilometer layer of ice of Europe.

As reported , the test Rover will be concentrated in those places where the ice meets liquid water. A similar area of the section of water and ice will be particularly important in the analysis of the chemical solution under-ice ocean of Europa. Due to the fact that the Earth in these substances there is a huge number of microorganisms, it is likely that we will be able to find a similar forms of life in the more remote areas of the Solar system.
According to the experts, participating in the development of a unique Rover, the lack of a large number of solar energy may not interfere with local life to develop and evolve due to the presence of rich in chemicals that feed a hypothetical subglacial life. To search for traces of organic life, BRUIE will be impervious to most ocean currents, allowing the device to maintain buoyancy in the most difficult conditions. In addition, the automated device will be able to learn to “fall asleep” when scientists will need to do something for a long period of measurement during the observation of the subglacial environment.
Dan Berisford — a mechanical engineer working on the project, claims that the BRUIE Rover combines several scientific instruments for measurement of salinity, percent dissolved oxygen, pressure and temperature. In order to be able to overcome the huge thickness of ice on the satellites of the giant planets, the Australian scientists are already working on a way that could deliver BRUIE under the ice sheets of Europe and Enceladus. One of the preliminary concepts for ocean research, is located beneath a thick crust of ice that can develop a special tunnel robot, working on the synthesis of nuclear energy. Heat from nuclear energy could melt the ice, and the car would be able to freely pass through the hole in the multimillion-dollar permafrost.
Despite the fact that we still don't know for sure whether there is life on Europa or Enceladus, the search of mankind surely must be something to begin. Perhaps one of the first steps on the path to conquest and Saturn would launch in the mid 2020-ies of the upcoming mission from NASA Europa Clipper, which for the first time in the history of mankind can properly explore Europe and to understand whether the small icy bodies of the Solar system to be another cradle of life within the Solar system.
