Nature's Mystery: Why Do Animals Stop Being Afraid of Predators?

Once upon a time, all animals without exception were wild. But then some of them started living closer to people. And it's not just about domestication of cats and dogs. First we started to contain chickens and other animals as a source of meat, eggs, wool and other usefulness. And then humanity noticed that some species of animals began to disappear. To stop their extermination, reserves were built, inside which rare animals are protected. Scientists wondered how quickly animals get used to humans and how does this interaction affect their behavior? It turns out that life with people greatly dulls the protective mechanisms of animals and they become unsuitable for wild conditions. As part of the scientific work, the researchers examined the results of 173 studies on the ability of 102 animal species to withstand predators. All of them were united by the fact that they are in close contact with people. The animals were divided into three groups: domestic, protected and living in an urban environment. The results of the above-mentioned studies have shown that all these animals get so used to humans that over time they completely cease to be afraid of predators in the wild.
Animals from nature reserves unnecessarily rely on people
Being close to people, the animals really have nothing to fear. For pets and protected species, there is virtually no threat from predators. Animals living in urban environments can sometimes still be attacked by bloodthirsty creatures, but the probability is also small. And this is despite the fact that unlike domestic and protected animals, urban dwellers do not receive special support from people. But at the same time urban animals are more ready to return to wild conditions and in case of what will be able to give the predators a fight back. And domestic and protected species at the sight of a predator will certainly wait for human intervention and most likely die. That's not good news.

On top of all this, animals accustomed to humans are slowly evolving. It can be said that some of them are practically not improved. And all because in their lives there are almost no difficulties - they are protected, are warm and do not suffer from hunger. They do not have to adapt to difficult conditions, while wild animals constantly adapt to difficulties. In general, pets and endangered species in reserves are much weaker than their wild counterparts.

According to biologists, the results of scientific work can be used to more effectively protect animals from extinction. There is nothing wrong with what conservationists hold. Once the population is restored, they are released into the wild and that's where problems can arise. Based on the results of the study, it turns out that after staying next to people rare animals are more likely to become victims of predators. Years of human work to restore the population can simply become trampled into the mud.

At the moment, scientists believe that conservationists should carefully monitor the animals released from the reserves into the wild. If there is a risk of attack by predators, they must be protected. When they give offspring in the wild, the new generation can not worry.
