What is the

Oxytocin - love hormone

The human body produces a huge variety of hormones, each of which performs its task. For example, many well-known endorphins bring people a sense of joy, and excess cortisol signals the stressful state of a person. Among all these hormones there is also oxytocin, which is also known as the "love hormone". In numerous scientific papers, researchers have found that it is produced in the brain during love experiences. In particular, its concentration increases during sexual contact, breast-feeding, hugging and other forms of love. It is believed that the level of this hormone directly affects people's lives in childhood and adulthood. It turns out that oxytocin plays a very important role in our fates, so recently American scientists began to wonder which people produce it least. To find out, a small experiment was conducted.

The Impact of Childhood on Life

The scientific work was reported in . The study involved 128 volunteers between the ages of 18 and 62. As part of the first phase of the experiment, men and women were asked to complete a questionnaire. Using questions, the researchers found out how well they evaluated how their parents brought them up. They were also interested in how many people's parents divorced and during what period of their childhood. In addition, the volunteers shared how well their current personal lives are going and how confident they are. After answering questions, the participants of the experiment gave urine samples that showed the concentration of oxytocin in their bodies.

Divorce parents have a bad effect on children and it probably doesn't even need to be proven

It turned out that 27% of volunteers survived the divorce of their parents, and this happened at about the age of 9. It was in this group of people that the concentration of the "love hormone" in urine samples was lowest. And questionnaires they indicated that they do not consider their parents caring and in adult life are not confident and do not feel comfortable in a close relationship. All this is quite logical, given that for a feeling of affection and love a high concentration of oxytocin is simply necessary. And in divorced parents this hormone is in great deficit.

Problems of adult life

In previous studies, scientists have found that people from single-parent families in adulthood also can not create strong relationships. The relationship was discovered, but it was not clear to anyone why it existed. Now we can say that the cause has been found. When a child experiences a separation of father and mother, for some reason his brain stops producing enough "love hormone." It is not clear what this is about, but it is still possible to assume that the production of oxytocin. As a result, in adulthood such people can not maintain a romantic relationship for a long time because of the inability to express love. Also in romantic affairs a big role is played by self-confidence, and in this group of people it is very weak.

Production of oxytocin may be reduced due to childhood experiences

There is no doubt that the divorce of parents leads to a deficiency of oxytocin. Previously, scientists conducted an experiment in which the cubs were separated from their mother. Separation has indeed reduced the production of oxytocin and has affected their adult life. In particular, those who grew up without a mother were less sexually active and had less maternal instincts. Such studies help researchers explain many of the patterns that can be observed in scientific research.

Scientific work on the topic of human relations is carried out regularly. I recently talked about how artificial intelligence data on more than 11,000 love couples and revealed the secret to happy relationships. It turned out that in order to be happy, men and women need to learn how to keep their promises, thank their partner even for the little things and meet his needs. At the same time, the quality of the relationship is greatly influenced by the severity and duration of quarrels, without which, unfortunately, never do.
