Venus once could have entire oceans of water Source:

We used to think that among the planets of the Solar system only Mars, of course, if not to take into account the Land itself, can ever be a haven for life. However, according to the latest data, our larger neighbor, Venus, once could have oceans of water. A new computer simulation, the results of which are described in the journal of Geological Research: Planets, talking about the fact that Venus is a great example of the result of the so-called "runaway" greenhouse effect and that I may have a giant ocean on its surface.

The Publication reports that in the presence of an optimal combination of the atmosphere of early Venus, where there would be carbon dioxide and water, the planet would be habitable. In the early studies conducted in the past year, an astrophysicist in the space research Institute of a name of Goddard Michael Uaem also performed similar computer simulations. Then they showed that with a slower rotation of Venus around its axis, amounting to 116 earth days (the current rate is equal to 146 days), this feature would allow to form over the planet fairly dense cloud layer around 715 million years ago, with an average surface temperature of 15 degrees Celsius. Given that the current surface temperature of Venus is 460 degrees, it is not surprising that this possibility is very interested scientists.

So when something could look like Venus. At least according to computer models

Continuing to explore this question, a planetary scientist Emmanuel marsik of the University of Versailles-Saint-Quentin-EN-Yvelines (France) and his colleagues used computer simulations to see how the particles of the cooled molten lava can interact with streams of sunlight passing through the developing atmosphere of the planet. The results showed that even with the current level of carbon dioxide Venus took only 10 percent of the mass of the earth's water in order to form on the surface of the ocean.

"This work is aimed at a clearer understanding of the potential habitability of exoplanets", — shared way in an interview with Science News.

Marsik, in turn, added that the question of whether there was once on Venus, the oceans remains a subject of hot discussions.
