Patients with diabetes of the first type by an annual average of have to do 700-1000 injections of insulin. Hormone disorder acromegaly causes people to go to doctors and receive very painful injections into the muscle once a month. Some people with multiple sclerosis, used injections of interferon beta three times a week. Injections like to do not all. Therefore, scientists are trying to develop more "humane" replacement needles and syringes. One such recent development is the "smart capsule" RaniPill.

Its Creator is an Indian inventor of various medical devices Imran (has more than 400 patents for various inventions). He worked for several years on a new method of delivery drugs into the body without using painful injections.

A Patient who wants to take advantage of RaniPill should just swallow the capsule as a conventional tablet. Once in the stomach and going into the reaction to the acid environment, the capsule shell dissolved, which will lead to the mixing of the two chemicals contained in the capsule, and the release of carbon dioxide. Gas will inflate a little sphere inside the capsule, under pressure of which the capsule will move the needle for injection of drugs directly into the stomach wall or intestine. The latter does not contain pain receptors, but are densely covered with network of blood vessels where the drug immediately get.

The capsule Itself, and all of its component parts, including needle, made of borshchagivka material. According to the developer, fragments that failed to decompose within 1-4 days will be released together with the digested food.

During the experiments, it was demonstrated that the use of RaniPill not cause problems if swallowed, passing through the digestive tract and even in the inflating of the sphere and the actuation of the needles.

Test "smart capsules" RaniPill with a variety of potentially useful drugs, including insulin, were carried out on hundreds of laboratory animals. All of them were successful. In addition, successfully completed tests involving 20 human volunteers, divided into two groups. However, in this case, the command of Imran without drugs, just by checking the sensations of the volunteers from the application of "smart capsules". One group was asked to take the capsule immediately after food, the second on an empty stomach. Once people swallow the capsules they were allowed to walk freely and to do the usual things. Every 30 minutes the experiment participants did an x-ray of the gastrointestinal tract, on which was depicted the progress of the movement of the capsule.

In the words of Imran, all the volunteers agreed that the capsule easy to swallow. All said that there was no pain or discomfort from the hidden prick they really felt. The developer adds that to check "took a few pills". However, some he swallowed without water. The tests also showed that the food poses no problems to work, and then the subsequent digestion of the capsule. However, people who took it after a meal, the passage of the capsule through the digestive tract was a little longer than those who took it on a hungry stomach.

Interestingly, Imran calls his invention the robot, although the "smart capsule" there is no electronic and metal parts.

"Despite the fact that the "electronic brain" she is not, she works and performs only assigned to it a mechanical function in offline mode", — says the inventor.

The next step will be tested already with real patients and real medications.

In addition, the developer plans to complement its "smart capsule" and even a small wireless sensor that will beep as soon as the medication is delivered to the target. This will allow doctors to control the mode of administering drugs in the case of what to message to a mobile device that people missed the dose of a drug.
