Researchers do not know what was the reason for the formation of such a surface, but they have an assumption, which is associated with the possible presence of water on Mars.
An Unusual texture formed on the area called Protonilus Mensa, under the surface which may contain frozen water. It is, in the opinion of the researchers is the cause of the formation of irregularities. Most likely, cavities arise in the process of transformation of solid ice to vapor. The researchers believe that this surface can be found in other areas of the middle latitudes of the red planet.
The Picture was taken with the aid of the interplanetary station Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), which began operations back in 2006. As a camera system was used HiRISE, which over the last decade has done more than 52,000 high-quality images of the red planet. For example, at the end of 2018 under his gaze fell .
