NASA repaired the space telescope Source:

The American space Agency , it seems, could find the source of the problem, which on 8 January led to the failure of the space telescope "Hubble". In Agency hope that the telescope will be able to resume full academic activities by the end of this week. Recall that in early January from the Hubble broke one of his most important scientific instruments — "Wide angle camera-3" (Wide Field Camera 3). The Agency reports that its engineers were able to solve the problem.

Like many other spacecraft, the telescope "Hubble" equipped with a special system that takes the space Observatory into "safe mode", if the automation detects any mechanical problem. In this case, the operation of the apparatus is minimized. After that, ground team searches for the source of the problem and tries to find a way to solve it.

In the latter case, the failure of Hubble, which occurred on 8 January (), the software is "Wide angle camera-3" found more elevated than usual energy consumption as a scientific tool. To prevent any possible damage to the automation turned off the camera.

A detailed analysis of the problem, NASA engineers discovered that in fact the levels of the energy distribution at the moment of failure was optimal. It seems that the source of the problem was the telemetry system of the apparatus, which collects and sends data values to the main computer. In these data, the engineers found error. NASA employees conducted a reboot of all systems after that all the indicators of power supply came back to normal.

Despite the fact that all systems of the device work normally now, currently, NASA engineers are engaged in the calibration and checking of all tools. If all goes according to plan, "Wide angle camera-3" telescope will be able to resume stargazing by the end of this week, reported on the official website of the mission.

This breakage is not surprising, given the age of the telescope. "Hubble" was launched into space in 1990. Initially it was assumed that the unit will be able to work in orbit for 15 years, but in the end, he is engaged in science for almost 30 years. In 2009, NASA spent repairing and upgrading the Hubble by installing a new wide angle camera.

The Agency expects that the Hubble will be able to continue research at least until 2021. To replace the Hubble telescope should come a new generation "James Webb", but the latter is still not completed.
