If the brain gets tired when playing sports? Source:

When playing sports not only tired muscles, but the brain

All of us from early childhood, we understand how man is important and useful exercise. Following this knowledge, each of us played football, ran and was doing any , and then felt complete exhaustion. Such fatigue is especially notable professional athletes preparing to participate at the Olympic games — some of them after intense workouts literally exhausted and can't recover. Noticing this, the French experts decided to find out: if it is not complemented by physical fatigue athletes mental exhaustion? After all, if we are talking about both types of fatigue, athletes will need more serious methods of recuperation.

To find an answer to a question, the researchers conducted an experiment with the participation of 37 volunteers involved in power sports. Study participants with an average age of 35 years were divided into two groups. The first group of athletes trained in emergency mode, which in addition to the usual several weeks of training included three weeks of enhanced 40% exercise. The second group was the control and the athletes trained in a familiar mode.

How sports affect the human brain?

Conducting surveys and magnetic resonance imaging, which allows to identify even the smallest changes in the human brain, scientists, in addition to physical fatigue, really noticed the mental fatigue of athletes. In behavioral tests, the first group showed the impulsiveness and almost always chose the immediate reward, although after a short while, they could get something out of it. This means that they too get tired responsible for making critical decisions part of brain and they began to make disadvantageous choices.

Exhaustion was evident by computed tomography, which showed slow job of the lateral prefrontal cortex. It is this region of the brain, incidentally, is responsible for making complex decisions. Knowing all this, scientists made a clear conclusion — in sports, the human brain is really tired and requires the same rest as the body.

Why tired brain?

Researchers believe that the fatigue of the brain is related to the fact that when the sports person also have to think. In particular, it is vital to keep track of your movements and sensations — for example, when lifting weights to the athlete, it is important to monitor the condition of their muscles. If they get sick and fail to keep the weight sports equipment you need time to put it on the floor. Otherwise, the athlete runs the risk of dropping it on a rod and cracking bones. As can be seen, the work of the brain in sports is really vital.

Understanding of gravity, the athlete it is important to monitor their feelings

According to the researchers, the findings will enable them more correctly to select athletes to participate in sports competitions. When choosing they will have to consider not only physical readiness, but also the state of the brain — dropping on the competition, a tired athlete can lose.

We believe that the study in the first place will allow managers to develop more effective strategies of rest for the athletes. They must take account of both the physical and mental condition of the person — if all this is taken into account, the exhausted athlete clearly recover faster than usual.
