Scientists have grown the world's first hybrid embryo monkey and human Source:

In recent years, more interesting and largely controversial experiments conducted in China. We already told you about how Chinese scientist with the editor of CRISPR genome before they are born. Some time ago notorious surgeon to be held in China transplant the head, but it never happened. But not so long ago, something else has happened: an international team of scientists for the first time in history raised a viable embryo monkeys and humans.

Who created the hybrid of monkey and human?

According to the publication the Daily Mail.uk research group included scientists from the Salk Institute (USA) and Catholic University of Murcia (Spain). Led a team of experts biologist Juan Carlos Izpisua. But why this goal was chosen ? It's pretty simple: China is much less strict legislation concerning the conduct and, according to scientists, the experiment in China has significantly accelerated the beginning of the experience and also allow for «to avoid additional legal issues».

How to create hybrid embryos of humans and monkeys

The Researchers have formed a hybrid embryo by genetic modification of embryos of monkeys. First they deactivated the genes that are necessary for the formation of organs, and then introduced into the embryo of human stem cells that are able to form tissue. In other words, the embryo was formed by mixing genome of apes and human stem cells. Therefore, after the introduction of the stem cells became possible to grow human tissues, organs and organ systems.

This is interesting:

It is Worth noting that the embryo was destroyed on the 14th day of pregnancy and was not able to develop into a full organism, but development proceeded quite normally and without any deviations. The end of the second week of pregnancy was chosen. This period of time the scientists called «Red line». That is, the embryo has not yet begun to develop Tsentralnaya nervous system. Namely, it is often the counter-argument in creating hybrids of animals and humans, because the formation of the human Central nervous system stem cells in theory can provoke the emergence of a developed consciousness.

Previously, scientists have experimented with the creation of interspecific hybrids. They were able to create a hybrid , and a fetal pig with human stem cells. Although the second experiment failed. Besides the fact that the embryo was destroyed as the company «red lines», and human cells almost did not survive.

We are trying not only to move forward and to continue the experiments with human cells, cells of rodents and pigs, but also with primates. — said Professor Izpisua. Our study is a big step forward to using animals for transplant organs. In the future, because of this, we want to grow for transplantation of the heart, eye, and pancreas.

But in order for that to happen, you need to solve a lot of ethical issues. Some scientists are inclined to believe that gain consciousness. Others believe that this will not happen. What do you think? Please share your opinion in the comments and in our
