How stress changes our brain? Source:

It is Unlikely that on this planet there is a man who at least once in my life encountered such a phenomenon . Moreover, almost every one of us regularly experiences stress in one form or another. However, few people gave much thought to how exactly stress affects our entire body. But researchers from Switzerland thought about it and studying the effects of stress on our brain came to quite unexpected results.

What is stress?

To understand what stress is, to begin with it is necessary to understand what it's for. The fact that our body regularly maintains a constant internal environment for the normal of our existence. The simplest example can serve as body temperature or blood pressure.

So, when there is something "unsettling" our constancy, and then there is stress. However, the normal stress we experience almost every moment: regularly, our body attack viruses and bacteria, you went outside on a Sunny day and went cold rain, you went for a run and your heartbeat increased — all of this stress to the body. Just our body is so smart that it is able . Compensation mechanisms of the stress inherent in our nature and in stress there is nothing wrong.

However, there are stressors that the body to compensate for not. And that's when it becomes a problem.

How stress affects the brain

In order to answer this question, a team of researchers from the University of Zurich headed by Valerio Zerbi decided to genetically modify the brain of laboratory mice in order to selectively control the release of noradrenaline. The fact that the concentration of this substance in the brain always increases when any kind of stress.

Once the animals were ready for testing, the scientists caused the release of noradrenaline and conducted MRI brain scans of rodents. It turned out that the regular release of noradrenaline has changed the functioning of neural networks in the areas responsible for processing sensory stimuli, as well as in the amygdala.

All of these areas are responsible for processing information and
emotional state. The fact that people under stress become irritable known for a long time, but we didn't think brain damage is so strong. — said Valerio Zerbi.

The danger, according to the authors, lies not so much in the fact that stress causes changes in psychoemotional sphere, but the fact that stress crumble neural connections in the brain, which may lead to human and even the deterioration of his psyche.
