In the distant 1815, the famous French chemist of that time, Michel Chevrel synthesized a previously unknown substance, which he called the cholesterol (literally — "solid bile"). The fact that cholesterol belongs to the class of alcohols, was proved somewhat later by physicist Marcelina bartlo, which found the substance was renamed in a number of European countries, acquiring a more correct chemical name "cholesterol". In the healthy human body this substance performs many useful functions, among which we can see the formation of bile acids, vitamin D, and even sex hormones. However, the excess in the blood can cause a number of serious chronic diseases. What was the reason this property of cholesterol and whether it is possible somehow to adjust its presence in the body?

Most of this substance produced by the liver, while about 20% of cholesterol is introduced to the body along with the foods we most often eat.
