Really useful methods of speed reading?

The XXI century — the information age in the history of mankind. Never before have we still not faced with the amount of information that is present not only in global network, but also in the more traditional sources: books, magazines and Newspapers. However, despite the universal availability of any type of information, the mankind reads less because of the banal lack of time. In order to somehow brighten up such depressing trend, were invented different methods of speed reading, allowing us to obtain information from printed sources much faster than before. But do they really work?

Help methods of fast reading?

Although a huge number of modern advertising everywhere urges us to buying a webinar for reading, the scientists claim that the increase in the speed of obtaining information from print sources more than 3 times is impossible.

— is quite challenging for the brain task that requires concentration and the possibility of interpretation of incoming information. In order to read this text, your body to coordinate multiple mental systems. So, you must first see the word, recognize it and understand the value, then link it with the rest of the proposal and the wider surrounding context.

Sometimes crashing in the process of reading requires you to go back and reread the required segment again. Despite the fact that in real life this happens very quickly (an experienced reader can read from 200 to 300 words per minute), speed up this process with the preservation of accuracy is almost impossible.

the Average reading speed the average person is around 250 words per minute

First reading began in 1959, when Evelyn wood presented the first program on increasing reading speed. The book became so popular that presidents Carter, Nixon and Kennedy sent his closest subordinates straight to popular courses. Indeed, considered unique technique wood taught people to read whole chunks at once, while other approaches imply different ways, for example by scanning text in a zigzag pattern. Scientists believe that our eyes are at this time making a completely useless movement, not related to the process of perception of information.

Studies show that visual acuity is concentrated in a relatively small region of the perceived information, which makes it impossible to analyze and read large amounts of text at a time. Reading comprehension — is the ability to recognize words, so the adjustment of the eye movements probably will not help you to read faster. Due to the fact that our brain perceives the information in an orderly manner, zigzag pattern of the text is likely to only worsen the reading and your vision, never giving you the opportunity to gain new knowledge.

In recent years, many authors techniques of speed reading claimed that they can help to increase the reading speed without putting you to any training. For example, some mobile applications have learned to display text only one word at a time, one after the other at a certain speed. Thus, your eyes are forced to focus on the word before you. But then again, the eye must sometimes go back and re-read words to fully understand the text. And although the eye can focus only on a small area, studies have shown that your vision is able to capture important information beyond the words in focus — that it is simply impossible to do if you read only one word at a time.

Of Course, reading speed is strongly dependent on many factors. So, due to certain physical and mental abilities, some people are faster readers than others. Those who have the best working memory or ability to process information quickly, able to recognize up to 600 characters per minute. However, all the allegations that people can double or even triple your reading speed, the researchers presented highly questionable. Studies have shown that most techniques of speed reading makes it impossible to fully understand and correctly perceive the material.
