Found a species that was considered extinct for 30 years

Can an extinct species re-appear
As it turned out, nothing is impossible. Not so long ago a group of researchers found some members of the species silver chevrotain (Tragulus vericolor). This animal is a little bit like deer, but the size of a large domestic cat. This species is found only in Vietnam and was first described in the early 20th century, and the last mention of it found in 1990. Since the animal was never seen again. Until recently.
There was no reason to think that this species is extinct, but at the same time we did not have evidence that the species still exists, — said Andrew Tinker, Department of Asian species and wildlife protection and Dr. Institute for zoo and wildlife research Leibniz in Berlin. No scientist or naturalist didn't have the slightest idea whether there is chevrotain so far. And some data pointed out but the fact that the species is gone forever.
In the framework of the project to find the organization Global Wildlife Conservation, the researchers began to search for the lost chevrotain. Scientists traveled to Vietnam, talked with villagers and foresters who said they had seen animals similar to chevrotains roaming the tropical forests of Annam region of Vietnam and Laos, known for its high concentration of endemic species. Endemic species are considered, which are strictly on a certain territory and outside it are not used.
The team had a suspicion that the locals could have something to confuse. Therefore, the entire region was placed a small camera for surveillance. And not to scare wildlife and reduce human presence in wild areas to a minimum, the camera is equipped with a powerful battery. And the devices themselves did a photo only when the recorded motion.
Five months later, the researchers studied the resulting image. Turns out the locals were right: scientists have discovered 275 photos serebristogo chevrotain. Then they installed more cameras for another five months and finally received 1881 a photo. Researchers are not sure exactly how much individuals were recorded in the photo. We don't know does this mean something from the outside, because we don't have enough information, but still, it seems to us, the threat is still there, as these animals are not so common.

Now the team with additional research hopes to find out whether the species populations are stable or threatened, and inhabit the species in other parts of Vietnam. The experts want to start developing strategies for the conservation of this and other species of rare animals.
