How to change the universe with one more dimension?

What has changed, if it was not only the three spatial and one temporal dimensions? Imagine, if you can, the ability to move in an additional direction: in addition to the up-down, North-South, West-East. That there is an independent direction beyond our conventional notions of the axes x, y and z. And imagine that you are the only one in the world who can get access to this fourth dimension. Someone in our three-dimensional world would seem that you are able to do strange and unusual things that kind of make you godlike.

How is this possible? Yes, exactly the same as you — a three — dimensional creature interacting with a two-dimensional universe.

From the point of view of our additional (third) spatial dimension, we can get inside any two-dimensional beings and move it to its environment, not cutting. To punch out, to swap right and left. Fortunately, our Universe is not four-dimensional creatures, because they would be indistinguishable from the divine beings that play with physics. But what if instead we were beings of higher dimensions, the universe itself would have more dimensions than it is now? It should be noted that it is quite possible. In the context of the General theory of relativity is quite easy to construct space-time in which the number of "large" (macroscopic) measurement changing with time. We could not only have a large extra dimension in the past but in the future too, or you can create a constantly changing space-time in which this number is constantly changing.

What would it look like? We don't usually think about it but four fundamental interactions — gravity, electromagnetism and the two nuclear forces — have certain powers and properties, because there are in the number of dimensions that exists in our Universe. If we reduce or increase the number of dimensions will change, for example, the location of the lines of force of the field.

It would be a disaster if the electromagnetism or the nuclear forces had changed instantly as atoms or atomic nuclei would have decayed, changed in size or formed completely disjointed structure or related structures (e.g., humans), which depends on them.

And this means that when the fourth dimension appeared and increased in size (and therefore its effects), gravity has started to "leak out" into this extra dimension. And therefore the object will experience less gravity than we are accustomed to.

This would lead to the emergence of a number of strange signs.

First, the asteroids which rotate firmly clasping together will fall apart, because gravity will not be enough to hold these rocks and stones. Comet coming close to the Sun, will evaporate faster and have impressive tails. And if the fourth dimension grow large enough the gravitational forces on the Ground seriously reduced and our planet will be more, especially at the equator.

People living near the poles will feel reduced gravity, and people living near the equator are liable to be thrown into space. At the macro level the famous Newtonian law of gravitation — inverse square law — suddenly will become the law of inverse cubes, so that the force of gravity would be much weaker with increasing distance.

If the dimension is increased to the size of the distance from the earth to the Sun, in fact everything in our Solar system would be unbound. If it lasted more than a few days a year — even if gravity was returning to normal in 50 weeks — our Solar system has totally collapsed in just over one hundred years.

We would have been periods on Earth when we not only would be able to move in additional direction through the space, in addition to the forward-backward, up-down, right-left, but when the properties of gravitation greatly changed and not for the better. Although the competition with jumps in height and in length would be awesome, the consequences for our stable system would be apocalyptic.

An Extra dimension, while it remains at a small enough scale, it will be virtually invisible, especially if electromagnetism will remain limited by our three dimensions. But let the fourth spatial dimension grow large enough that we can move through it... And then the planet itself, the stars, the galaxies and the whole universe will be threatened. Even a very short time in this dimension is nothing like it. Be careful what you wish for.
