The telescope Source:

Modern astronomy has indeed reached a very high technological level. Because of this, we can observe events and phenomena that took place more than 13 billion light-years. We have seen how the encounter of the neutron star; currently trying to determine the exact nature and source of the mysterious fast radio bursts (FRB) and maybe in this year we will see the event horizon of a black hole. The universe is huge and full of mysteries that we have yet to solve it. But a recent discovery proves that some mysteries may be hiding literally under our noses, and their detection may be a common case.

Watching the space telescope "Hubble for a spherical cluster NGC 6752, which is located about 13 thousand light-years from us in the halo of the milky Way, astronomers made an unexpected discovery – a small, dim galaxy located 30 million light years from Earth.

"the Main purpose of our work was to determine the age of one of the globular clusters of the milky Way, remote from us by 13.5 thousand light-years, for which we studied a population of white dwarfs in it. However, looking at the data, we suddenly noticed a compact group of stars. After careful analysis of their brightness and temperature, it became clear that these luminaries do not belong to the cluster NGC 6752, and is located several million light years beyond," the scientists write in the article, the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

The Researchers found that Bedin 1 very tiny, extremely isolated and very ancient galaxy. Its dimensions are only 3,000 light years, 10 times smaller than our milky Way. Thus about 1000 times fainter than our galaxy. Object classified as a dwarf spheroidal galaxy, for which besides the small size are also characteristic of the absence of galactic dust and star formation processes.

Usually dwarf spheroidal galaxies nearby galaxies or clusters (e.g., of the 36 detected galaxies of this type 22 of them are satellites of our milky Way), but Bedin 1 in this respect they're quite different. The nearest to it is galaxy NGC 6744 lies about 2 million light-years.

Using photometric methods, scientists have determined a low content of metals in the galaxy. And since the distribution of heavy elements (e.g. metals) in the Universe occurs with the death of stars, in which these elements are formed, their low concentration in Bedin 1 can say that the galaxy contains a lot of old stars.

Defining the properties of stars Bedin 1, the researchers were able to establish the approximate age of this tiny galaxy. He is 13 billion years. Add another 0.8 billion — get the age of the Universe. Given these characteristics, Bedin 1 can be regarded as the astronomical equivalent of «fossils» from the era of the early Universe.

Not surprising is another fact. Given the distance to the object, its remoteness from other galaxies, its low brightness and its stealth light more bright stars, located in front of him — surprisingly, he was generally discovered, the more "Hubble", which for nearly 30 years.
