NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine told about the next stage of the lunar ambitions of the space Agency. Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) have received the first official partners. At the event dedicated to the announcement, it was named nine companies that will develop technologies to support the upcoming lunar station and unloading of small cargo on the moon itself. You may have heard about some of these companies, however, there are new names in the field of space exploration.
The CLPS Program will start with a relatively modest loads up to 10 kilograms. Send even something so small on the moon — already a pretty big feat in itself, as shown by program Lunar X Prize. However, the focus on a small cargo opens the door for startups to CLPS, as well as for already well-known aerospace companies.
theNo surprise and the emergence of Lockheed Martin Space among nine companies CLPS. This is one of the largest contractors to NASA, is currently working on a module for the Orion crew. Deep Space Systems, which worked on "Orion", "Juno" and other NASA missions, also in the company. Draper — a well-known contractor, also included in the list. He works with several partners, including Japanese Ispace.

Some companies can be found in the list at the Lunar X Prize. Participation in CLPS is a natural step for them, even if they had not won a Google-sponsored contest.
Previously, NASA has allowed us to assume that the construction of a lunar Gateway station will begin in 2023. Everything will depend on the success of the program Commercial Lunar Payload Services, this is its importance. To support and maintain a permanent human presence on the lunar orbit will require a large number of service that NASA is unable to provide alone.
And do you think that the Gateway project will be a success or not? Tell us in our
