New data on eruption in Hawaii: increased lava flows and the first victim Source:

For three weeks as Kilauea spews lava on the big island. It all started with who got to the residential areas of the island. After that, volcanologists suggested the possibility of a drop in the level of lava in the crater. At the moment we can say that the situation is developing, but is not improving. Change of the lava, observed in the last few days show that the situation continues to deteriorate literally.

Volcanic fissure, from which it all began, during the first weeks erupted not so intense, highlighting the dense and slow lava flows. At the moment, the lava flows become more abundant, and they erupt above. At the weekend several lava flows went in the ocean. The concentration emitted during the eruption of sulfur dioxide tripled.

Volcanologist Janine Krippner told that everything you see until last week was the remaining magma from past eruptions. What see in Hawaii now is more fresh, hot and saturated gas lava. Another volcanologist, Michael Paul, believes that there is nothing unexpected and, as a rule, the first thing that comes out of Kilauea, are products of the past.

Today, the height of the lava fountains can reach 100 meters. It is not known how long the eruption will last. Forecasts can be built only when the seismic activity starts to decline. At the moment, not decreasing no seismic activity, no lava flows. In 1955 eruption of Kilauea lasted a few months, and now history could repeat itself.

It is Worth noting that the increased lava flows led to the first injury. According to the Washington Post, the lava fountain injured the leg of a man standing on the balcony of the third floor.
