Previously, scientists found a lot of evidence that within the human bone has a complex system of circulation. If it was not, whereas, for example, emergency injections in the bone marrow wounded soldiers so quickly helped them get on their feet? A new study has shown that in the bones there are hidden passages that help the blood and immune cells to spread rapidly throughout the body.
Tiny channels called "transcortical vessels", as they permeate even the hard, cortical layer of bone. The first guess about their existence was proposed by immunologist Matthias Gjunterom, watching the movement of the colored blood cells within the body of laboratory mice. He noted that they are even inside the solid layer and not finding it is a feature of any mention in books, has created a special research project.
To detect subtle blood vessels, scientists introduced into mice the bone substance under the name of ethylcinnamate. Using light microscopy and x-ray, they saw hundreds of tiny tunnels. It turned out that in the tibia of mice contain more than 1000 such capillaries, through which more than 80% of arterial blood. The same tunnel, but was discovered and in the bones of a human volunteer became the author of the study Matthias Gunzer.
It was completely unexpected to find the anatomical structure which is not described in any textbook of the 21st century, — said the researcher.
The Team believes that informed the vessel could not be detected due to the incompleteness of the technology. Now the renderers finally helped them to detect such subtle things as the passages inside the bones.
The New knowledge will help researchers create new drugs against inflammatory diseases. Recently, there are becoming more open — for example, the discovery will help in the treatment of diabetes and even cancer.
