A New study conducted by astronomers, indicates that the galaxy NGC 2356 has a significant amount of dark matter in their Central region. The work presented in the paper on October 2 arXiv.org can challenge a modified theory of Newtonian dynamics. Located 114 million light-years away in the complex supercluster Hydra-Centaurus galaxy NGC 2356 is a bright infrared galaxy (LIRG), one of the brightest nearby galaxies, and the brightest galaxy in infrared light, is located within a redshift of 0.01 of the Earth.

NGC 3256 was formed in the merger of two gas-rich disk galaxies, drawn almost face to face. These properties make the LIRG an excellent target for the study of dark matter.

How much dark matter?

"We have investigated the distribution of Central masses of bright infrared galaxy NGC 3256 at the distance of 35 IPC using observations of CO(1-0) Atamanskogo large millimeter and submillimeter array (ALMA) data and 2MASS near-infrared light", write in the work of scientists under the leadership of the Isra of Mohammed Ali Abdulazim.

An Analysis of available data allowed scientists to determine the mass distribution in NGC 2356. I found that a large number of invisible dynamic mass (about 48 billion solar masses) located in the Central region of the galaxy. The share of invisible mass was about 87% of the dynamic.

According to the authors, the number of invisible mass cannot be explained by molecular mass and stellar mass in the Central region. Therefore, they suggest that the invisible mass is probably due to the presence of dark matter.

"the Amount of dark matter is about 4.84 ± 0.42 × 1010 solar masses, which is definitely greater than the mass of the star. This galaxy requires the existence of a huge amount of dark matter in the Central region."

"What is more important is the fact that this problem of missing mass cannot be explained by traditional theory of the modified Newtonian dynamics due to the strong acceleration in the Central region of the galaxy. Accordingly, dark matter in the centers of galaxies is a serious problem for traditional models of MOND".
