The Company SpaceX plans to enter the super productive level of space launches. The company's President, Gwynne Shotwell said in an interview with the publisher Reuters that the company is going to make space launches every two weeks after next week will open its new launch complex in Florida.
Recall that SpaceX had to freeze its schedule of launches after the explosion of the carrier rocket Falcon 9 on the launch pad at Cape Canaveral last year. Flights resumed just a few weeks ago, in mid-January. For launches, the company is currently using the air force base Vandenberg, located in California.
New launch pad SpaceX will be North of Cape Canaveral and belong to Space center NASA Kennedy. Damaged in the explosion last year the Playground continues to be repaired. The construction of a new launch complex has cost SpaceX about $ 100 million. Beyond repair as old premises of the company had to shell out almost the half of this value.
The already busy private space company has not forgotten about the planned updates to its missiles. Shotwell said that currently work is underway on modernization of rocket engines, which will improve their productivity and security. In addition, after the disgruntled comments from NASA and some government officials, a serious revision is in respect of the turbopumps, pumping fuel and air. Their current option tends to be covered with cracks. Work is also underway to revise and improve the effectiveness of the software.
"the main issue For us is not their strength, but rather durability. Can these cracks lead to failure of the system and create problems when it launches. I think NASA used to use only the best technology, so they don't want the turbines generally observed some cracks", — explains Shotwell.
The President also added that the new turbopumps will be introduced into operation before the first unmanned test flight of the spacecraft Crew Dragon — most likely in November of this year.
According to the latest information provided by the newspaper The Wall Street Journal, the chamber expects SpaceX will delay the first manned mission of its spacecraft to the ISS, scheduled for 2018, at a later date until all problems and issues are resolved. It is unclear if SpaceX will manage to cope with all the leaning difficulties and stay in the originally planned schedule.
