Found a piece of gold was even more valuable stone

Left — found in Australian meteorite

In 2015, a resident of Australia on behalf of David hole were in search of metals in the regional Park called Maryborough. Scanning the area with a metal detector he found under a layer of yellow clay of a very unusual stone that has been painted in a reddish color and had quite a large mass. As in the nineteenth century, this Australian region was known as the location of large pieces of gold, the man thought he found a huge gold nugget, enclosed inside of solid rock. He tried to break the outer layer with the aid of saws, drills and even acid, but neither method was effective. That he managed to find a more valuable stone than a gold nugget, David hole only found out a few years later.

The discovery was described in a publication . Suspecting that his hands were not the Golden nugget, the man asked for help in the Melbourne Museum. The Museum staff, among whom was a geologist Dermot Henry, immediately assumed that we are dealing with a meteorite. They reacted to the heavy reddish stone with skepticism, because many of the "meteorites" that have brought people to the Museum, turned out to be ordinary rocks.

In Australia found valuable meteorite

However, intrigued by a large mass of stone, that geologists decided to study the composition of the stone, by sawing it with a diamond saw. they found a large quantity of tiny crystalline drops metal , referred to as Hendry. To the surprise of the Museum staff, they really brought the meteorite, not the usual, and chondrite. They explained that this type of meteorites is formed by extreme temperature changes during the occurrence of a meteorite in the dense layers of the atmosphere.

Mass of the meteorite was found equal to 17 pounds.

An Unusual meteorite received the name of Maryborough, and, by estimates of researchers, it was formed in space 4.6 billion years ago. His weight was an impressive 17 pounds, and his homeland is the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The Museum staff noted that in the interval between 1889 and 1951, astronomers watched a few in Australia and the found object may be one of them.

Particularly valuable the meteorite does what in the Australian state of Victoria in the entire history has been found no more than 17 of such space objects. According to geologists, the inhabitants of the above-mentioned state is much more likely to find a gold nugget than a meteorite. Besides, the found sample is the second largest chondrite, and is considered the largest 55-pound specimen found in 2003.

According to the researchers, this finding is also very valuable because it can tell a lot about the history of our Solar system. As the age of the meteorite was estimated at 4.6 billion years, it certainly contains elements that can give scientists to understand how it was formed the next planet to the Earth.
