Mysterious radio signals from deep space will help to decipher artificial intelligence Source:

Our planet continues to receive different radio signals. More than once scholars have attempted to decipher them and understand whether they have at least some sense. However, regular attempts to do this over and over again fail and any success to speak of. Besides, it would be interesting to know the source of these signals. Where they come and how they are formed. And since people do not come out, why not to use artificial intelligence? That is exactly what I want to do Australian scientists.

Location in space appear radio signals

Futurists would say that , but the problem is that at the moment, a single proof of this hypothesis is not. Typically, these signals are captured in a few hundred light years after the explosion or collision of space objects. Or after flashes on the red giants and similar stars.

One of the most famous at the moment signals that managed to register scientists is . The existing technologies of observation and recording of information and are unable to explain the nature of these phenomena.

How artificial intelligence will help in the search for radio signals

According to the editors of the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, one of the staff of Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne (Australia) has developed a system of machine learning that is able to recognize a "fast radio bursts" (FRB). These signals have complex, mysterious structures and reproduced at a fraction of milliseconds.

This is interesting:

controlling the Molonglo telescope, was able to fast radio bursts, but in more detail and to record their signatures for further analysis. Using AI, the researchers were able to detect from 59 to 157 of such signals, much more than before.

Fast radio bursts are very interesting to explore also for the reason that, in addition to its unusual devices, they are never the same. That is not just «tune» at one point continuously «listen» it. Previously, we used x-ray, optical and other telescopes to get more information about these radio signals, but they often just «no time» go to write mode, and many signals were lost. Now, thanks to artificial intelligence, we can quickly switch the telescope to record mode, to record a greater number of fast signals, and hence, potentially, to learn more about them.

Despite the fact that scientists say is the truth, I want zametit that still the term «artificial intelligence» — it's not some kind of intelligent machine, but simply a set of programs for work with huge data arrays. These programs work on the basis of algorithms (sometimes very complex) but not able to what we call thinking. Therefore, in this case we have a more advanced version to analyze incoming information and nothing more.
