Cells use

We don't even realize that even at rest our bodies, many cells are constantly in motion. There are many types of cell migration, but researchers at the University of Michigan found another one that is quite amazing and very different from all the others. It turned out that some cells use tissue fibers as a "slingshot" — they pull them and move in a certain direction at high speed. To detect new behavior of the cells failed due to the experiment.

To capture the rapid movement of cells, scientists designed the 3D-structure, which mimics connective tissue in the human body. Engineer William Wang shared that they were surprised at how quickly move the selected cells. It turned out that they create tension in the fibers below this energy to move to the desired place much faster than usual.

We found that cells can move in a wholly unexpected way in which migration occurs much faster than usual.

Brandon Baker, one of the authors of the study

Researchers came to the conclusion that in this way the body can move healthy cells to where they are most needed. On the other hand, discovered a method of migration can accelerate the spread of cancer cells. Fortunately, this discovery will help scientists develop new treatments for dangerous diseases. For example, they can accelerate the movement of cells for rapid wound healing or to slow down the process for stopping the development of cancer.
