Discovered microquasar emitting powerful gamma radiation Source:

The study of distant (and not) space can shed light on the structure of our galaxy and even the universe. Every day scientists from around the world are watching celestial bodies and galaxies and very often these works are rewarded. Recently we wrote about the fact that the telescope and here now it became known that literally "in our backyard", just in the milky Way, was discovered a powerful source of gamma radiation. In a more detailed study revealed that it emits a rather unique microquasar.

The Microquasars constitute a binary star system consisting of two components: a normal star and a neutron star or a black hole. An ordinary star such systems gravity associated with the first object and moves around it in orbit. The chemical substances from the strong gravitation relegated to the domain of a "strong" object. This creates a release of energy. In fact, the microquasars are the same quasars that only the latter typically have at their center a supermassive black hole.

According to the editors of the journal Nature, a team of researchers from Michigan technological University, exploring remote areas of the milky Way, at a distance of 15 light-years from Earth have found the above described object called SS 433. The object attracted the attention of scientists because of the unusual gamma radiation. It turned out to be 25 trillion times stronger than the radiation from our Sun. The uniqueness of SS 433 lies in the fact that all known outbreaks of quasars and microquasars is directed towards the Earth, but the SS 433 will iskushay their how-to "angle" that allows you to get more data.

HAWS (High Altitude Water Cherenkov Observatory). It hence recorded the radiation of SS 433 microquasar

Scientists have suggested that the substance from the star forms an accretion disk near the surface of a black hole, because of what periodically there is a powerful emission of energy. Experts now hope that the new data can shed light on the physical processes in quasars and microquasars.
