NASA hired Lockheed Martin to create a quiet supersonic aircraft

NASA space Agency shared some details about the development of a new experimental aircraft Low-Boom Flight Demonstrator (LBFD). The Agency concluded the contract on its creation in 2016, and now told that it's time to its development and creation. LBFD if the experiment is successful, he can be a starting point for the development of a quiet supersonic technology, and creating and very quiet supersonic passenger aircraft.

At the last press conference, the Deputy Director of the office for research technology Aeronautics javon the Tire has announced that Lockheed Martin will build the Agency's new supersonic aircraft. The contract is worth of 247.5 million dollars. The representative of the company, also participated in this conference, explained that the aircraft will not just be a prototype, but a real research vessel. The first test flights of a new supersonic aircraft will begin in 2021.

The Main objective of the project is the creation of the aircraft technology for reducing the noise of overcoming the sound barrier, which in the future will allow you to use aircraft equipped with such technology over the American continent. Flying experimental aircraft will be on several selected us cities, then NASA plans to conduct a survey of their residents and know they heard something. The Agency hope that a successful experiment will allow us to remove a longstanding ban on flights of supersonic aircraft over land.

For most commercial air travel for nearly half a century there is a clear speed limit is 660 mph (about 1000 km/h). With this speed the plane is a standard size, reaching 30,000 feet (about 9 km), breaks the sound barrier and creates a 30-mile (48 km) continuous sonic boom. In the first, surface layer of the atmosphere disturbances during take-off and landing aircraft and cause a rather unpleasant consequences – glass broken, plaster cracked, and the animals on farms just go crazy. In the result, supersonic flight over the United States are banned since 1973.

The Length of the experimental apparatus LBFD will be 29 meters, or roughly the size of a small commercial airliner. Flight height will be 17 thousand meters. The machine can reach speeds of 1.4 times larger than the speed of sound (about 1600 km/h).

Previously, NASA reported that the project plans to create a supersonic aircraft whose noise levels will not exceed the range of 60 to 65 dBA. By volume it will be comparable with the sound of a sports car on a highway or monotone buzz of conversation in a crowded restaurant.
