The electric cars? Pfft... the Chinese have built the cargo ship on batteries Source:

While the company Elon musk announces new models of passenger electric vehicles and even introduced the world to his first , Chinese engineers are not sitting idle. Without any problems they created the first ever electric for coal transportation on the water, able to transport up to 2000 tonnes of cargo. A cargo ship has already been commissioned and successfully copes with its tasks.

The cargo Ship has the following dimensions: length – 70,5 meters and a width of 13.9 metres. The ship is equipped with two electric motors with a capacity of 160 kW, as well as an array of supercapacitors and lithium batteries 1000 total power generating capacity of 2.4 MW⋅h. For comparison, this is about 24 batteries from the most powerful car model Tesla – Model S P100D. A single charge of these batteries is enough to keep the ship carried a cargo a distance of 80 kilometers. Yes, the ship is designed for short distances, but this is enough to carry the coal for one of the rivers of China in Guangdong province.

Both ports, between which runs a dry cargo ship, equipped with special powerful systems charge the batteries. For full recharging takes about two hours, which is not so much, given their total capacity. During charging the vessel loaded a new batch of coal, so that in principle, time and money the owners of the ship do not lose. The first ship set sail last month and since then regularly transportorul coal between the two ports. The creators of the ship, inspired by the success of their venture, they plan to create and other cargo and even passenger ships in the likeness of his first offspring.
