Touch a loved one has a pain relieving effect Source:

The human Touch is always nice, but other than that, if you believe new research group of scientists from France and Israel, they have a number of very interesting effects. For example, using tactile contact two loved ones sinhroniziruete your brain in the range of 8 to 12 Hz, and lower in case of their presence. How the researchers were able to prove it — read our material.

Really touching, and to be more specific, slow strokes, is able to significantly reduce the pain. However, scientists do not fully understand exactly how this process occurs. Previously it was a hunch that touch partially restrict the passage of pain signal in the spinal cord. Other experts believed that the thing in psychology and the reduction of pain associated with a decrease in anxiety and heart rate. In addition, an important role in the process of play and the fact that the person experiencing the pain, feels the empathy of his beloved.

The Staff of Haifa University, led by Paul Goldstein conducted an interesting experiment. It was attended by 22 heterosexual couples aged 20 to 32 years. Girls and their young men were seated in chairs, standing side by side. One of the hands of the pilot having a heating element with temperature sensor, causing the unpleasant sensation of pain. After that, scientists using electroencephalograph measured the pain of girls in several conditions: when they were in the room alone when their partner was near, and when the man held their hand. Participants were additionally asked about their feelings. In men, among other things, was interested in — how they empathize with their partners.

The result of the experiment was very interesting. In the case where the man was holding his partner's hand, her pain was significantly reduced. The level of synchronization of neural activity pairs in the mu-range increased significantly. We are talking about an area of the brain responsible for processing sensory information. Empathy partners also increased sharply thanks to the touching and the fact that a man literally "took" some of the pain on themselves, while not contacting directly with the heating element. The results of the studies read in the journal .
