In Egypt found 30 mummies. Why is it the biggest discovery of the last century? Source:

Egypt has made the largest in the last 100 years of archaeological discovery.

Egypt has a rich history, so there is nothing surprising in the fact that in this country very often made archaeological discoveries. For example, recently scientists were able to find and located at the bottom of the sunken city of Heraklion. All of these discoveries are amazing, but they are all overshadowed by the new archaeological discoveries in the cemetery of El-Asasif that is located on the West Bank of the Nile. Archaeologists managed to dig up 30 coffins with the mummies, which were not touched by the robbers. It is believed to be the biggest archaeological discovery in Egypt over the last hundred years.

Initially, the employees of the Service of antiquities of Egypt announced the discovery of only 20 sarcophagi. But then, during a press conference in the Egyptian city of Luxor, archaeologists on the excavation as much as 30 graves. Failed to detect them due to the protruding of the top of one of the sarcophagi. The mummies were hidden in the depth of one meter, so they were not visible to the robbers. Due to the abundance of sand, don't touch it even termites.

The biggest archaeological discovery in Egypt

Thus, the sarcophagi preserved a great view even after three thousand years after the time of death. According to the researchers, they found "the stash" was buried bodies of priests, among whom were both men and women. As all the mummies were wrapped in cloth, to determine their gender was only on the hand position on the sarcophagi. Also among those buried there were two children — to recognize them failed as not surprisingly, for small growth.

from the excavation site.

According to scientists, buried people lived around the X century BC. At this time Egypt was ruled by pharaohs of the XXII dynasty, the founder of which is considered to be .

This is the first major archeological discovery in Egypt since the late 19th century, said Khaled El-Anani, the Minister of antiquities of Egypt.

The Coffins were tightly sealed, placed on top of each other and arranged in two rows. Due to the fact that they have been well hidden, they are perfectly preserved. In particular, before the eyes of archaeologists were pictures of ancient Egyptian gods and hieroglyphs from the Book of the dead. If not for a good disguise, burying forever was looted. But all remained in place, so it is considered so important a discovery. The discovery was made not by foreign archaeologists and the Egyptian.

Basically, this is all that is currently known about the burial. While archaeologists can't tell the exact age of each of the buried people. They also can't call the cause of their deaths, but among them, obviously very few people in this age. Because, as you know, thousands of years ago people lived very little by modern standards because of the abundance of all kinds of diseases and hard work.

Very soon, sarcophagi and mummies will be sent for restoration. Then, for 2020, they will be sent to the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is located near the pyramids of Giza.
