Water will increase the battery life

Despite the fact that in the modern us, most often does not suit their capacity, the experts consider it the weakest of their short lifespan. Li-ion batteries last only a few years, after which their capacity begins to decline sharply, making them unusable. Experts at Harvard University have found a way to increase the battery life in a rather unusual way — making them the filling liquid.

Considering how fast the world is developing alternative directions in energy, the question arises: where to store huge amounts of collected energy, e.g., solar station? Need a reliable, roomy and, most importantly, long-lasting batteries, able to faithfully serve us for many decades. The Harvard experts developed a "liquid battery," which can operate smoothly for the past ten years, with over 1000 recharge cycles it loses only 1% of its capacity.

Technology is the modification of the molecules of electrolytes of ferrocene and viologen, making them more resistant to degradation, and also soluble in water. Such a solution is an incredibly promising alternative to existing batteries. In addition, the water makes the batteries much more friendly in terms of ecology, because such a solution is far less toxic than currently existing solutions. As for the cost of such a solution, the scientists are confident that these batteries will eventually become much cheaper than Li-ion.

To date, researchers from the Harvard not name specific dates when their child will be able to enter the market. But the demand for their invention is definitely. Given that renewable energy is the trend today, an increasing number of large companies are thinking about how to store collected their electricity. And as you know, expensive and short lived batteries are not so attractive.
