The Chinese supercomputer has created the greatest model of the Universe

The world's Most powerful supercomputer Sunway TaihuLight was launched in China last summer. Entering it into operation, Chinese experts spared developers from other countries, but because of its computing power scientists are making serious advances. One of the last — creating the world's largest virtual Universe.

Not so long ago scientists from Zurich have also created a model of the Universe with its own supercomputer. It took them about 80 hours, but the Chinese supercomputer Sunway TaihuLight coped with the task in just over an hour, and the scale of his project was five times more than in the experiment for European scientists.

For modeling Sunway used 10 million cores, each of which worked at higher speeds — so the Chinese scientists were able to expedite progress of the computation.

Simulating the Universe, the researchers divide it into many particles interacting with each other. And the more such particles, the more accurately we can reproduce and predict the evolution of the Universe. In the 70s scientists were able to simulate about 1000 particles, it's supercomputers allow us to create a model in which the number of particles comes to a trillion, but Sunway TaihuLight surpassed this result.

Despite the fact that Sunway TaihuLight became the fastest supercomputer in the world, Chinese developers cannot stop and plan by 2019 to create a new supercomputer that will be more powerful than TaihuLight 10 times.
