Scientists have discovered a giant wandering planet with a powerful magnetic field Source:

Approximately 20 light years from Earth is a very strange planetology object with a magnetic field of enormous power. It is more than 200 times bigger than Jupiter and is approximately 16-54 times higher than that of the Earth. Scientists could not understand what they see in reality. Explanations were few. But until now scientists did not understand how the object, called SIMP J01365663+0933473 (SIMP or simply) is able to maintain such a powerful magnetic field and to produce at its poles fantastically bright Northern and southern lights.

As it turned out, not only the mechanisms of formation of the magnetic field of the object interested scientists. Many other features of the SIMP cause the researchers.

"This property is primarily interesting because the observation of them may provide a new perspective on the mechanisms and processes generating magnetic fields of this strength have the planets outside the Solar system," — says the study's lead author melody Cao from Arizona State University (USA).

Scientists discovered SIMP J01365663+0933473 in 2016, mistaking it for a brown dwarf. Brown dwarfs are often called "failed stars" because they have too much mass for the normal planets, but not enough to be called a full-fledged star. Researchers estimate the mass of the planetary object SIMP about 13 times the mass of our Jupiter. In addition, the temperature of brown dwarfs is usually too high to be called planets, but at the same time, it is significantly lower than that of the stars. The surface temperature of the same SIMP J01365663+0933473 according to experts, is about 815 degrees Celsius, and the temperature of the Sun — about 5500 degrees Celsius.

A New study object, the results of which were published in the Astrophysical journal, suggests that SIMP still should be classified as planets. Very unusual planets. And, as it turned out, the SIMP is a wandering planet that is not tied to any particular star system. She has no home star. It just slowly floats in space alone. The observation of the object was carried out using the VLA radio telescope (Very Large Array (Very Large Antenna array).

"This facility is right on the border concepts giant planets and brown dwarfs, or "failed stars." He seems to hide a lot more surprises that can potentially help us to better understand the mechanisms of generation of magnetic fields in stars and planets. Moreover, we believe that these mechanisms can be characteristic not only of brown dwarfs and gas giants, as well as for earth-type planets", — says Cao.

Observations using the VLA radio telescope made it possible to detect a powerful magnetic field at little planet object beyond the Solar system. In addition, the telescope helped scientists to note the presence of polar auroras. Actually do the auroras, but rather they are the background radiation has allowed them to find the object.

"the Discovery using the VLA object SIMP J01365663+0933473 on the radio waves of the Aurora it says that we have a new method of search for exoplanets", — the researchers note.
