Roskosmos wants to build orbital nuclear power plant

The Problem is fuel delivery to the orbit of the Earth is quite serious. Now to power satellites and other spacecraft, requiring a long stay in space, solar panels are used. But the specialists of Roskosmos went the other way and plan to create a space nuclear power plant (NPP) for this purpose.

This statement was recently made by the representatives of the Corporation. They also mentioned that the construction will meet the national design Bureau "Arsenal". According to the information received, the energy of the spacecraft will be transferred from the plant by means of focused laser beam is able to cover a distance of half a kilometer. In addition, this energy will be enough for you to use it not only as a replacement for solar panels, but also as a complement to them.

Thus now the scientific community has split into two parts: one supports the idea of building a new object in earth orbit, others criticize such an endeavour. Supporters of construction of nuclear power plants say that the idea is extremely promising and gives the opportunity to "plan ahead a few steps forward" in terms of space exploration. Such outer structure can assist you considerably when you move a spacecraft beyond the Solar system and within it. Critics called the cost of construction of NPP in orbit unreasonably high, offering to continue to develop the use of solar panels and other alternative energy sources to supply space vehicles.
