Astronomers have confirmed a collision between two galaxies satellites of the milky Way

If you look at the sky at night, being in the southern hemisphere, you will see two luminous clouds, standing aloof from the milky Way. These clouds of stars are galaxies satellites of the milky Way: Small and Large Magellanic Clouds (SMC and LMC). Using the latest data represented a powerful new space telescope, astronomers from the University of Michigan found that the South-Eastern region, or "wing", Small Magellanovo Cloud departs from the main body of this dwarf galaxy.

Clash of galaxies

Together with an international team of Sally Aw, the Professor of astronomy of the University of Michigan and a research associate of johnny Dorigo Jones studied MMO, trying to find "runaway" stars, or stars that have been ejected from clusters within an MMO. To observe the galaxy, they used the latest data of the space telescope "Gaia", a new space telescope launched by the European space Agency.

Gaia will be photographing stars for several years to map out their movements in real time. Using these data, scientists can measure how the stars move across the sky.

"We were looking for a very massive, hot young stars — the hottest, most luminous stars, which are quite rare," says Oh. "Beauty Magellanovo Small Clouds and Large Clouds Magellanovo is that they are separate galaxies."
