Create a hybrid fusion reactor

Despite the rapid development of alternative energy sources, one of the most beneficial types of energy is still nuclear energy. Therefore, not surprising that in this area there are a lot of developments. For example, it was recently announced that the Russian Federation has launched a project for the construction of a reactor on thorium. Such a reactor is a peculiar mix of nuclear and thermonuclear technologies.

According to Yevgeny Velikhov, the honourable head of the Kurchatov Institute in Russia is a priority site for construction of hybrid reactor because our country is a major world supplier of nuclear fuel.

"If we observe now the geopolitical problems are overcome, then build hybrid reactors will all the partners of the project International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor".

International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) is an international project on creation of thermonuclear experimental reactor. His task is to demonstrate the possibility of commercial use of fusion reactors, as well as in solving physical and engineering problems that can be encountered along the way. Participants in the ITER along with Russia are the EU, Japan, USA, Korea, China, India and several other countries.

The Hybrid reactor is a combination of all available nuclear and thermonuclear technologies, but it is arranged much easier than fusion, and without the need for ultra-high pressure and temperature. The thorium is much more profitable of the same uranium: it is cheaper to produce, its reserves more, and the waste does not require a complex process of burial. Thus, according to the statements of experts, the first hybrid reactor can be created "during the thirties of this century".
