3D printers released into the air hazardous substances

But 3D printers showed another terrifying side — they put it in the air particles dangerous to human body.
This discovery was made by researchers from the Georgia Institute of Technology and the division for chemical safety Underwriters Laboratories. The object of their research became common 3D-printers, printing FDM technology, where the raw materials they use thermoplastic materials.
It Was found that in the process of printing printers emit air ultra fine particles dangerous to human health. Their diameter does not exceed 100 nanometers, so they are invisible to the human eye. Their microscopic size and hidden dangerous when inhaled, they easily penetrate into the tissues, which can lead to lung and heart disease.
Tests have shown that these emissions are 200 kinds of volatile organic compounds. Among them are dangerous to the mucous membranes and the skin formaldehyde, stimulating chronic diseases styrene and causing headache caprolactam. The number of these particles affect both the type and the color of the raw material and nozzle temperature 3D printer.
The head of the research project Marilyn black believes that their work will help producers of 3D printers to minimize the amount of harmful emissions. They already asked them to warn users about the danger and the need to use equipment only in well ventilated areas.
A Team of researchers is not going to stop there. In the future they plan to study the emissions of other types of 3D printers and learn how these emissions affect the body in the long term.
