Universal flu vaccine passed the first test
Source:Regularly, scientists are forced to develop new types of influenza vaccines due to the fact that this virus is very well adapted to the drugs, resisting him and mutates. However, the first year being developed, the so-called "universal vaccine" against influenza that can protect people from most strains of the virus. And recently one of the first such vaccine has passed a series of tests.
Most of the modern vaccine uses viral antibodies, causing an immune response and "fuel" the immune system to fight the virus. But flu, as already mentioned, in just one season adapting to such conditions and changes, therefore, the vaccination should be repeated. The new vaccine has a slightly different production approach: to encode a protein used molecules of mRNA. At the cellular level is as close to the real conditions of infection (but no infection), which causes a powerful immune response.
Now scientists have conducted a series of tests on mice. The effect of the experimental vaccine have survived for 30 weeks. Moreover, even after the expiry of this period the protective effect weakens for very long. The mRNA molecule is "enveloped" by a lipid particles in order not to cause a reaction of rejection before they can reach the cells of the immune system. In the future, scientists want to test with other animals, and after 2 years to start full-scale clinical trials in humans. According to the authors,
"If clinical trials on humans, the vaccine will work at least 50 percent also, as it was with the mice — it will already be a huge achievement. Such a vaccine will enable a large number of people to do one shot every few years and almost forget about the flu."
