Represented a bio-printer that prints cells of the pancreas for diabetics

Currently, the only salvation for patients with diabetes is regular insulin injections. However, it has long conducted research in the area of creating a "new pancreas" for diabetics. And recently, scientists from the Australian University of Wollongong has introduced a new 3D bio-printer that can literally print new patient cells the body.

The Innovative system is called PICT (Pancreatic Islet Cell Transplantation). The 3D printer can create a three-dimensional frame, inhabited islet cells responsible for insulin production. This method allows to reduce the risk of rejection of donor tissue during transplantation of pancreatic cells.

One of the founders of the bio-printer, Professor Gordon Wallace

Now possible to transplant human donor tissue to produce insulin, but the risk of rejection in this case will be extremely high. Bio-printer PICT allows to reduce this possibility by including in the donor material of the cells of the patient. In addition, the printer allows you to print multiple cell types in three-dimensional frame you can add endothelial cells, which will speed up germination vessels to supply. As stated by researchers,

"Printer PICT will allow us to create "custom made" by mixing donor cells with recipient cells in a special way, by which we get brand new bodies for experimental transplantation, significantly reducing the risk of rejection".

Now the printer is transferred to a hospital in Australia, which experts plan to test the device in practice and, if necessary, to make the necessary changes to improve the operation of the device.
