New Russian supercomputer called

On the territory of Russia operate more than ten supercomputers, the leader of which is considered to be . Its performance is more than 2 petaflops, which provides him 63rd place in the ranking of most powerful supercomputers in the world. The staff of the joint Institute for nuclear research, located in Dubna near Moscow, has introduced a new supercomputer "talker", which will be used to process data from future heavy ion Collider NICA.

A New supercomputer was named in honor of academician Nikolay Nikolaevich Govorun – Soviet mathematician, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences and editor of the legendary journal "Programming". On the creation of the computer in addition to the staff of the joint Institute for nuclear research worked well as experts from Intel, NVIDIA, IBS Platformix and PCK. A supercomputer built on the basis of 72-core processors Intel Xeon Phi Intel Xeon 7290 and Gold 6154. Information between computing nodes is accomplished using Intel Omni-Path at speeds of 100 Gbps.

The performance of the "talker" is 1 petaflops, which is equivalent to quadrillion computing operations with floating point per second. This automatically makes him a member of the TOP 500 most powerful supercomputers in the world. The developers are very proud that they were able to implement incredibly efficient liquid cooling system that uses no more than 6% of the energy consumed by the supercomputer. The main task of the "talker" will be the modeling of the dynamics of the collision of heavy nuclei at the Collider NICA. In addition, it will be used in research related to new materials.
